Abstract
A vertical take-off and landing aircraft includes a fuselage, at least one wing connected to the fuselage, a plurality of rotors connected to the at least one wing for providing lift for vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft and a plurality of proprotors connected to the at least one wing and tiltable between lift configurations for providing lift for vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft and propulsion configurations for providing forward thrust to the aircraft.
Claims29
A vertical take-off and landing aircraft comprising:
- a fuselage;
- a single pair of wings connected to the fuselage or a single wing extending across the fuselage;
- a plurality of rotors connected to the single wing or single pair of wings for providing lift for vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft, the plurality of rotors including three rotors on a first side of the fuselage and three rotors on a second side of the fuselage;
- and
- a plurality of proprotors connected to the single wing or single pair of wings, the plurality of proprotors tiltable between lift configurations for providing lift for the vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft and propulsion configurations for providing forward thrust to the aircraft, the plurality of proprotors including three proprotors on the first side of the fuselage and three proprotors on the second side of the fuselage;
- wherein:
- a first proprotor of the plurality of proprotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to a second proprotor of the plurality of proprotors such that a rotational axis of the first proprotor is non-parallel with a rotational axis of the second proprotor when the first proprotor and the second proprotor are in the lift configuration;
- a third proprotor of the plurality of proprotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to the second proprotor of the plurality of proprotors such that a rotational axis of the third proprotor is non-parallel with the rotational axis of the second proprotor when the third proprotor and the second proprotor are in the lift configuration;
- the first proprotor and the third proprotor are both canted away from the fuselage;
- the first proprotor is an innermost proprotor on the first side of the fuselage, and
- the third proprotor is an outermost proprotor on the first side of the fuselage.
A vertical take-off and landing aircraft comprising:
- a fuselage;
- a single pair of wings connected to the fuselage or a single wing extending across the fuselage;
- a plurality of rotors connected to the single wing or single pair of wings for providing lift for vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft, the plurality of rotors including three rotors on a first side of the fuselage and three rotors on a second side of the fuselage;
- and
- a plurality of proprotors connected to the single wing or single pair of wings, the plurality of proprotors tiltable between lift configurations for providing lift for the vertical take-off and landing of the aircraft and propulsion configurations for providing forward thrust to the aircraft, the plurality of proprotors including three proprotors on the first side of the fuselage and three proprotors on the second side of the fuselage;
- wherein:
- a first proprotor of the plurality of proprotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to a second proprotor of the plurality of proprotors such that a rotational axis of the first proprotor is non-parallel with a rotational axis of the second proprotor when the first proprotor and the second proprotor are in the lift configuration;
- a third proprotor of the plurality of proprotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to the second proprotor of the plurality of proprotors such that a rotational axis of the third proprotor is non-parallel with the rotational axis of the second proprotor when the third proprotor and the second proprotor are in the lift configuration;
- the first proprotor and the third proprotor are both canted away from the fuselage;
- a first rotor of the plurality of rotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to a second rotor of the plurality of rotors such that a rotational axis of the first rotor is non-parallel with a rotational axis of the second rotor;
- a third rotor of the plurality of rotors on the first side of the fuselage is canted at a fixed cant angle relative to the second rotor of the plurality of rotors such that a rotational axis of the third rotor is non-parallel with the rotational axis of the second rotor;
- the first rotor and the third rotor are both canted away from the fuselage;
- the first rotor is an innermost rotor on the first side of the fuselage, and
- the third rotor is an outermost rotor on the first side of the fuselage.
