## Abstract

An intravenous catheter assembly comprising: a catheter tube; a catheter hub having a distal end and a proximal end, wherein the distal end is joined to the catheter tube and the proximal end defines a housing having inner space; a needle extending through the catheter hub and the catheter tube and defining an axial direction, wherein the needle has opposite proximal and distal ends, the distal end forming a needle tip; a needle hub attached to the proximal end of the needle; a needle guard slidably arranged on the needle, wherein the needle guard is movably retained in the housing of the catheter hub; a valve provided in the inner space in the catheter hub to prevent foreign contamination from entering the catheter hub; and a disc that is arranged proximal or distal to the valve or that is joint or linked to the valve.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An intravenous catheter assembly comprising:
a catheter tube;
a catheter hub having a distal end and a proximal end and defining an axial direction extending between from the proximal end to the distal end, wherein the distal end is joined to the catheter tube and the proximal end defines a housing having an inner space;
a needle extending through the catheter hub and the catheter tube and defining an axial direction, wherein the needle has opposite proximal and distal ends, the distal end forming a needle tip;
a needle hub attached to the proximal end of the needle;
a needle guard slidably arranged on the needle, wherein the needle guard is movably retained in the housing of the catheter hub;
a valve provided in the inner space in the housing of the catheter hub to prevent foreign contamination from entering the housing of the catheter hub; and
a disc that is arranged in the inner space in the housing of the catheter hub proximal or distal to the valve or that is joint or linked to the valve, wherein the disc defines a thickness extending along the axial direction of the catheter hub and defines an aperture extending along the thickness from a center of the disc to an outer perimeter of the disc such that the disc has a profile of a C-shape along the axial direction of the catheter hub.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the catheter hub defines an inner wall comprising alignment features and wherein the disc is configured to interact with the alignment features in the inner wall of the catheter hub.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 2, wherein the alignment features comprise a recess or groove formed in the inner wall of the catheter hub, while the disc comprises a corresponding projection or protrusion configured to engage the recess or groove.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the proximal end of the catheter hub includes at least one cut, wherein the needle hub is configured to engage with the at least one cut to support locking of the catheter hub with the needle hub.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the needle comprises a proximal needle feature at the proximal end, opposite to the needle tip end, wherein the proximal needle feature is located at a proximal end of the needle hub.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 5, wherein the needle hub defines a hollow and wherein the proximal needle feature is disposed within the hollow of the needle hub.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the needle comprises a proximal needle feature at the proximal end, opposite to the needle tip end, wherein the proximal needle feature is attached to the proximal end of the needle hub by a needle fixation means.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the proximal end of the catheter hub is at least one selected from the group consisting of curved and tapered.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the valve comprises an elastomeric member having a peripheral wall and a base surface, wherein the peripheral wall projects from the base surface, wherein the base surface comprises at least one slit, which passes through the thickness of the base surface.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 9, wherein the elastomeric member comprises a vertical annular projection from the base surface for providing interference with the catheter hub, wherein the vertical annular projection projects from the base surface opposite the peripheral wall.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 9, wherein the elastomeric member comprises an inner vertical projection extending from the base surface in the direction of the peripheral wall.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 10, wherein the base surface comprises a second vertical projection extending from the vertical annular projection, the second vertical projection having a smaller diameter than the vertical annular projection.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The intravenous catheter assembly as claimed in claim 9, wherein the catheter hub defines an inner wall defining a recess and wherein the elastomeric member has a lateral annular protrusion protruding from an edge of the base surface configured to be received by the recess within the inner wall of the catheter hub to support the holding of the valve in the catheter hub.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)
