Methods, systems, and devices for implementing carrier aggregation for unmanned aerial vehicles over mobile networks

A non-transitory, machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

• obtaining a user end device information associated with a group of user end devices;
• identifying a first user end device from the group of user end device comprises a communication device associated with an aerial vehicle (AV);
• determining that data transmission associated with the communication device is generating interference with data transmission associated with a portion of the group of user end devices resulting in a first determination;
• determining the communication device supports carrier aggregation based on the user end device information resulting in a second determination;
• obtaining a list of a group of neighboring base station associated with the communication device;
• determining available frequency band combinations for the carrier aggregation;
• determining a frequency priority based on the availability frequency band combinations;
• based on the list of the group of neighboring base stations, identifying a primary frequency channel and associated primary base station and identifying a group of secondary frequency channels in each of the group of secondary frequency channels is associated with a secondary base station based on the available frequency band combinations and the frequency priority resulting in a group of secondary base stations;
• and
• based on the first determination and the second determination, providing first instructions to the communication device to split transmission of data associated with the communication device among the primary frequency channel and the group of secondary frequency channels, wherein the communication device transmits a first portion of the data to the primary base station over the primary frequency channel and transmits a portion of the data to each of the group of secondary base stations over an associated secondary frequency channel.

A method, comprising:

• receiving, by a processing system including a processor, user end device information from a primary base station;
• identifying, by the processing system, a user end device comprises an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on the user end device information;
• determining, by the processing system, the UAV supports carrier aggregation based on the user end device information;
• sending, by the processing system, a request to the UAV via the primary base station to obtain a list of a group of neighboring base stations associated with the UAV;
• obtaining, by the processing system, the list of the group of neighboring base stations from the UAV via the base station;
• determining, by the processing system, available frequency band combinations for the carrier aggregation;
• determining, by the processing system, a frequency priority based on the availability frequency band combinations;
• based on the list of the group of neighboring base stations, identifying, by the processing system, a primary frequency channel associated with the primary base station and identifying a group of secondary frequency channels in each of the group of secondary frequency channels is associated with a secondary base station based on the available frequency band combinations and the frequency priority resulting in a group of secondary base stations;
• providing, by the processing system, first instructions to the UAV to split transmission of data associated with the UAV among the primary frequency channel and the group of secondary frequency channels, wherein the UAV transmits a first portion of the data to the primary base station over the primary frequency channel and transmits a portion of the data to each of the group of secondary base stations over an associated secondary frequency channel;
• obtaining, by the processing system, a measurement report associated with the primary frequency channel and the group of secondary frequency channels;
• identifying, by the processing system, another primary base station based on the measurement report;
• and
• providing, by the processing system, second instructions to the primary base station to conduct a handover associated with the UAV to the other primary base station.
