Unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI)-level processing of out-of-band commands in heterogeneous computing platforms

A method, comprising:

• receiving, at an Out-of-Band (OOB) Microcontroller Unit (MCU), Embedded Controller (EC), or networking device integrated into or coupled to a heterogeneous computing platform of an Information Handling System (IHS), an OOB packet configured to enable remote management of the IHS while a host processor of the heterogeneous computing platform is in a low-power state;
• determining that the OOB packet comprises an OOB command that requires initialization of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) by the host processor;
• in response to the determination, waking up the host processor from the low-power state;
• carrying out the OOB command, at least in part, through initialization of UEFI by the host processor without initialization of any video device integrated into or coupled to the heterogeneous computing platform;
• and
• returning the host processor to the low-power state.

An Out-of-Band (OOB) Microcontroller Unit (MCU), Embedded Controller (EC), or networking device integrated into or coupled to a heterogeneous computing platform of an Information Handling System (IHS), the OOB MCU, EC, or networking device comprising:

• a processor core distinct from a host processor of the heterogeneous computing platform;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor core, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor core, cause the OOB MCU, EC, or networking device to:
• receive an OOB packet while the host processor is in a low-power state;
• and
• execute an OOB command within the OOB packet, at least in part, through initialization of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) by the host processor without transmission of any video signal to any display device integrated into or coupled to the IHS.
