Abstract
A disposable milk pod including an internal chamber containing fluid, a bottom portion, a top portion, wherein the top portion comprises a barrier, and a wall portion connecting the bottom and top portion. Prior to the disposable single serving milk pod engaging with a pod processing device, the barrier, the bottom portion, and the wall portion seal the milk within the internal chamber. In response to the single serving milk pod engaging with the pod processing device, the pod processing device pierces one or more portions of the barrier and injects a hydrous liquid such as water and/or steam into the internal chamber, such that the milk mixes with the hydrous liquid.
Claims21
A disposable milk pod comprising:
- an internal chamber containing milk;
- a bottom portion;
- a top portion, wherein the top portion comprises a first barrier, the first barrier including a film configured to be pierced by a pod processing device;
- a wall portion connecting the bottom and top portions, wherein prior to the disposable milk pod engaging with the pod processing device, the first barrier, the bottom portion, and the wall portion seal the milk within the internal chamber;
- a conduit comprising an outer wall, a channel, an orifice creating an opening on the outer wall, and an opening to the channel, and
- a second barrier,
- wherein:
- the opening to the channel is connected to the channel and the opening to the channel is configured to transfer a hydrous liquid from the pod processing device to the channel;
- the channel of the conduit is connected to the orifice;
- the orifice is configured to transfer the hydrous liquid from the channel into the internal chamber via the orifice causing the milk to mix with the hydrous liquid within the internal chamber, wherein the orifice is configured to transfer the hydrous liquid subsequent to the pod processing device engaging with the disposable milk pod, the milk being stored in the internal chamber prior to the milk pod engaging with the pod processing device;
- and
- the disposable milk pod is configured to enable the piercing component to pierce the second barrier subsequent to the engaging with the pod processing device while impeding the milk from exiting from the pierced portion by blocking the pierced portion via the piercing component of the disposable milk pod.
