## Abstract

A device for collecting urine discharged from a body of a user includes a fluid collection assembly having at least one layer for drawing urine discharged from the body into an interior cavity, an external covering that covers a portion of the at least one layer, and at least one fenestration for receiving urine, wherein the fenestration is a portion of the fluid collection assembly that is uncovered by the external covering. The device further includes a cap enclosing a first end of the assembly, a tube having a first end in fluid communication with the cap, and a shape retaining element configured to conform the assembly to a curved configuration and maintain the curved configuration until the configuration is adjusted. The assembly is configured to be disposed against the body of the user, with the at least one fenestration in operative relation with a urethral opening of the user.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A device for collecting urine discharged from a body of a user, comprising:
a fluid impermeable backing extending between a first end and a second end;
an outer collection layer having an outer surface that is configured to face the user and an inner surface that faces the fluid impermeable backing, wherein the fluid impermeable backing and the outer collection layer define a cavity that is configured to receive the urine from the body of the user;
an inner collection core extending along the inner surface of the outer collection layer;
a tube having (i) a first end extending out a first end of the cavity and (ii) a second end in fluid communication with a second end of the cavity; and
an anchor directly coupled to the tube adjacent to the first end of the fluid impermeable backing,
wherein the anchor extends laterally from opposing sides of the fluid impermeable backing, wherein the anchor comprises an adhesive layer,
wherein a longitudinal axis extends between the first end and the second end, wherein a lateral axis extends between a first lateral side of the device and a second lateral side of the device,
wherein the anchor is configured to extend from the fluid impermeable backing in a plane defined by the longitudinal axis and the lateral axis such that the adhesive layer is configured to lie in the plane and face the user while the outer collection layer faces the user,
wherein the outer collection layer is configured to receive the urine into the cavity, and the tube is configured to remove the urine that is received into the cavity when suction is applied to the tube.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the anchor comprises a center portion, a first wing portion extending from a first lateral side of the center portion, and a second wing portion extending from a second lateral side of the center portion.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the center portion has a width that is smaller than a width of the first wing portion and a width of the second wing portion, and wherein the center portion has a length that is smaller than a length of the first wing portion and a length of the second wing portion.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein a portion of the anchor omits the adhesive layer.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The device of claim 4, wherein the anchor comprises the adhesive layer at an inner area and omits the adhesive layer at outer edges of the anchor.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the anchor is configured to be coupled to a suprapubic region of the body of the user to position the outer collection layer facing a urethral opening of the body of the user.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the center portion, the first wing portion, and the second wing portion are a unitary, monolithic structure.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the anchor comprises an external film covering the adhesive layer, wherein the external film comprises one or more tabs that are configured to be gripped to remove the external film from the adhesive layer.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the anchor overlaps a portion of the tube.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a curved tube extension coupled to the first end of the tube.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a means for biasing the device to a curved shape.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The device of claim 11, wherein the means for biasing the device to the curved shape comprises a spring biasing member that is configured to bias the device to the curved shape.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The device of claim 11, wherein the means for biasing the device to the curved shape comprises one or more memory shaped supports that are configured to bias the device to the curved shape.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The device of claim 13, wherein the one or more memory shaped supports are encased by the fluid impermeable backing.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The device of claim 14, wherein the tube is positioned next to the one or more memory shaped supports.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the fluid impermeable backing comprises a first portion that is configured to be positioned at a pubic region of the body of the user and a second portion that is configured to be positioned at a perineum of the body of the user while the first portion is positioned at the pubic region.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The device of claim 16, wherein the fluid impermeable backing further comprises a third portion that is configured to be positioned at a coccyx of the body of the user while the first portion is positioned at the pubic region and the second portion is positioned at the perineum.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)
