Location estimation for reduced capacity devices

A user equipment device (UE), comprising:

• at least one antenna;
• at least one radio in communication with the at least one antenna and configured to communicate according to at least one radio access technology (RAT);
• and
• one or more processors in communication with the at least one radio and configured to cause the UE to:
• report capabilities associated with a positioning procedure for location estimation;
• receive, based on the capabilities, a reference signal configuration for the positioning procedure, wherein the reference signal configuration supports coherent stitching with tone-overlap and includes a scaling factor that is based, at least in part, on an actual bandwidth, a desired positioning measurement bandwidth, and an overlap indicated by the UE;
• and
• perform reference signal measurements based on the reference signal configuration on at least one non-positioning reference signal (PRS) reference signal, including indicating, to a location management function (LMF), a reduction in accuracy requirements for positioning measurement, wherein the reduction is base at least in part, on the UE being substantially stationary since a prior positioning measurement.

An apparatus, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one processor in communication with the memory and configured to:
• report capabilities associated with a positioning procedure for location estimation;
• receive, based on the capabilities, a reference signal configuration for the positioning procedure, wherein the reference signal configuration supports coherent stitching with tone-overlap and includes a scaling factor that is based, at least in part, on an actual bandwidth, a desired positioning measurement bandwidth, and an overlap indicated by the apparatus;
• and
• perform reference signal measurements based on the reference signal configuration on at least one non-positioning reference signal (PRS) reference signal, including indicating, to a location management function (LMF), a reduction in accuracy requirements for positioning measurement, wherein the reduction is base at least in part, on the apparatus being substantially stationary since a prior positioning measurement.
