Electronic device with reliable passthrough video fallback capability and hierarchical failure detection scheme

A method of operating an electronic device comprising:

• with at least one image sensor, acquiring a video feed;
• with a scheduler running in an application layer of the electronic device, obtaining a description of tasks to be performed by a plurality of applications running in the application layer by receiving compute graphs from the plurality of applications and analyzing the compute graphs to identify a condition of the applications;
• and
• determining whether to operate the electronic device in a first video passthrough mode or a second video passthrough mode based on the description of tasks.

A method of operating an electronic device comprising:

• with at least one image sensor, acquiring a video feed;
• with a scheduler running in an application layer of the electronic device, obtaining a description of tasks to be performed by a plurality of applications running in the application layer;
• determining whether to operate the electronic device in a first video passthrough mode or a second video passthrough mode based on the description of tasks;
• in response to determining that a first application in the plurality of applications is failing, triggering a first configurable corrective action;
• and
• in response to determining that a second application, different than the first application, in the plurality of applications is failing, triggering a second configurable corrective action different than the first configurable corrective action.

A method of operating an electronic device comprising:

• with at least one image sensor, acquiring a video feed;
• monitoring a condition of a first subsystem using a second subsystem;
• determining whether to operate the electronic device in a first video passthrough mode or a second video passthrough mode based on the condition of the first subsystem as monitored by the second subsystem;
• monitoring a condition of the second subsystem using a third subsystem;
• and
• determining whether to operate the electronic device in the first video passthrough mode or the second video passthrough mode based on the condition of the second subsystem as monitored by the third subsystem.

An electronic device comprising:

• at least one image sensor configured to acquire a video feed;
• a first subsystem;
• a second subsystem configured to monitor a condition of the first subsystem;
• a third subsystem configured to monitor a condition of the second subsystem;
• and
• one or more displays configured to operate in a first video passthrough mode or a second video passthrough mode based on the condition of the first subsystem as monitored by the second subsystem and based on the condition of the second subsystem as monitored by the third subsystem, wherein
• in the first video passthrough mode, the one or more displays is configured to output a passthrough video feed by using processing circuitry to perform a processing function on the video feed from the at least one image sensor, and
• in the second video passthrough mode, the one or more displays is configured to output a passthrough video feed based on the video feed from the at least one image sensor without performing the processing function.
