Data compression for neural systems

A system comprising:

• an implantable neural device comprising:
• an electrode array, wherein the electrode array comprises a plurality of electrodes arranged in a uniform configuration, and
• a controller configured to:
• receive electrophysiologic signal data from the electrode array,
• tile multiple frames of the electrophysiologic signal data based on spatial locations of electrode channels corresponding to the electrode array to define a macro frame,
• compress the macro frame data based on the locations of the plurality of electrodes utilizing a spatiotemporal data compression algorithm to define compressed electrophysiologic signal data, and
• transmit the compressed electrophysiologic signal data;
• a computer system communicably coupled to the implantable neural device, the computer system comprising a memory and a processor, the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the computer system to:
• receive the compressed electrophysiologic data from the neural device,
• decompress the electrophysiologic data, and
• provide the decompressed electrophysiologic data to a user.
