Host system diagnostic testing

A method, comprising:

• initializing a diagnostic tool for a system comprising a host subsystem having a plurality of software layers and a memory subsystem, wherein a kernel for performing resource allocation and file management comprises more than one of the plurality of software layers, wherein initializing the diagnostic tool comprises linking one or more dependencies of an operating system for a diagnostic executable, wherein the one or more dependencies are of a plurality of dependencies that are applicable to a plurality of operating systems, and wherein the diagnostic executable and the one or more dependencies are stored on a memory device external to the system;
• configuring, by the diagnostic executable, a plurality of trace points in the host subsystem, wherein at least two trace points of the plurality of trace points are associated with different tasks for an access operation of the memory subsystem;
• receiving, by the diagnostic executable, first data collected at the at least two trace points, wherein the first data comprises information related to the access operation across the different tasks;
• generating, by the diagnostic executable, second data based at least in part on performing one or more processing operations on the first data, wherein the second data comprises one or more metrics of performance of the memory subsystem for the access operation;
• and
• storing the second data to the memory device.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code, the code comprising instructions executable by a processor to:

• initialize a diagnostic tool for a system comprising a host subsystem having a plurality of software layers, wherein a kernel for performing resource allocation and file management comprises more than one of the plurality of software layers, wherein initializing the diagnostic tool comprises linking one or more dependencies of an operating system for a diagnostic executable, wherein the one or more dependencies are of a plurality of dependencies that are applicable to a plurality of operating systems, and wherein the diagnostic executable and the one or more dependencies are stored on a memory device external to the system;
• configure, by the diagnostic executable, a plurality of trace points in the host subsystem, wherein at least two trace points of the plurality of trace points are in different layers of the plurality of software layers of the system;
• receive, by the diagnostic executable, first data collected at the at least two trace points, wherein the first data comprises information related to an event across the different layers;
• generate, by the diagnostic executable, second data based at least in part on performing one or more processing operations on the first data, wherein the second data comprises one or more metrics of performance of the system for the event across the different layers;
• and
• store the second data to the memory device.
