Host-enabled block swap techniques

A memory system, comprising:

• a plurality of physical blocks;
• and
• processing circuitry coupled with the plurality of physical blocks, and configured to cause the memory system to:
• transmit an indication of a health metric associated with a first physical block and a second physical block of the plurality of physical blocks based at least in part on identifying the health metric;
• and
• receive, based at least in part on transmitting the health metric, an indication of an updated mapping associated with the first physical block and the second physical block.

A host system, comprising:

• one or more memory arrays;
• and
• processing circuitry coupled with the one or more memory arrays, and configured to cause the host system to:
• identify that a memory system is operating in an idle state;
• transmit a command requesting a health metric of the memory system based at least in part on determining that the memory system is operating in the idle state;
• receive an indication of the health metric based at least in part on transmitting the command;
• and
• update, based at least in part on receiving the indication of the health metric, a mapping associated with one or more physical blocks of the memory system.
