Abstract
A composite airfoil comprising an airfoil portion and a composite ply. The airfoil portion has an outer wall extending between a root and a tip, and between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The composite ply has a first set of fibers and a second set of fibers. Each fiber of the first set of fibers along a first centerline axis. Each fiber of the second set of fibers extends along a second centerline axis.

A composite airfoil comprising:
- an airfoil portion having an outer wall extending between a root and a tip and between a leading edge and a trailing edge;
- a composite material made from one or more composite plies, the composite material present in at least the airfoil portion of the composite airfoil;
- a first composite ply of the one or more composite plies, the first composite ply being provided within a first region of the composite airfoil, the first composite ply including:
- a first set of fibers, with each fiber of the first set of fibers including a first centerline axis and a first bulk modulus;
- and
- a second set of fibers, with each fiber of the second set of fibers including a second centerline axis and a second bulk modulus, different from the first bulk modulus;
- and
- a second composite ply of the one or more composite plies, the second composite ply being provided with a second region of the composite airfoil, the second composite ply including:
- a third set of fibers having a third bulk modulus.
