Abstract
A method and system for determining concentricity of a multiple layer golf ball are disclosed herein. One or more images of a golf ball are generated using an X-ray source, a camera or a digital detector, and an image intensifier. An edge detection algorithm is preferably utilized. The method also includes calculating Y,Z center coordinates of the a best fit diameter or ellipse of the inner edge layer and outer edge layer of the multiple layer golf ball.
Claims2
A system for edge detection in a layer of a golf ball, the system comprising:
- an X-ray scanning apparatus comprising an X-ray source and a detector;
- a source of golf balls in flow communication with the X-ray apparatus;
- wherein the X-ray scanning apparatus is configured to obtain a plurality of X-ray images of a golf ball;
- wherein the X-ray scanning apparatus is configured to generate a plurality of radial rays emanating outward from a center of the golf ball;
- wherein the X-ray scanning apparatus is configured to plot a pixel value of each of the plurality of radial rays;
- wherein the X-ray scanning apparatus is configured to analyze a plotted pixel value of each of the plurality of radial rays;
- and
- wherein the X-ray scanning apparatus is configured to determine edge detection of layers of the golf ball.
