Provided are compositions and methods related to the use of apilimod alone or in combination with glutamatergic agents or other agents for treating neurological diseases and disorders, and for the treatment of cancer.

A method of reducing neuromuscular degradation, reducing motor dysfunction, reducing deterioration of muscle strength, reducing deterioration of fine motor skills, maintaining fine motor skills, and/or improving muscle strength in a patient with a neurological disease or disorder comprising administering to the patient, an effective amount of apilimod, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
- thereby reducing neuromuscular degradation, reducing motor dysfunction, reducing deterioration of muscle strength, reducing deterioration of fine motor skills, maintaining fine motor skills, and/or improving muscle strength in the patient.
