Abstract
Parsing of C-plane messages is described, e.g., C-plane messages that are communicated from an open RAN distributed unit (O-DU) to an open RAN radio unit (O-RU) in order to determine downlink physical resource block (PRB) scheduling ahead of subsequent U-plane communication. A counter can be constructed by the O-RU for each symbol to be communicated, where the counter reflects the number of PRBs scheduled for the associated symbol. From this information that is determined based on target C-plane messages, a PRB utilization ratio can be constructed on a per-symbol basis, which can be averaged over any desired time period and then leveraged to generate power saving opportunities or other beneficial opportunities at the O-RU in full compliance with Open RAN.
Claims20
A radio unit, comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
- receiving a signal formatted according to an open radio access network, wherein the signal is received from a distributed unit of the open radio access network and comprises control plane data;
- determining that a target message, from the control plane data, indicates scheduling in a downlink direction and has a specified section type;
- initializing respective counters for respective symbols that are scheduled, via the open radio access network, for transport between the distributed unit and the radio unit during a time division multiplexing unit of time, wherein a total number of the respective counters is a function of a cyclic prefix being used by the open radio access network for communication between the distributed unit and the radio unit;
- and
- performing a parsing procedure that parses the target message, the parsing procedure comprising:
- identifying a symbol indicated by a message section of the target message;
- determining a number of physical resource blocks for the symbol that is scheduled via the message section;
- and
- incrementing a counter, of the respective counters, that is associated with the symbol by the number of physical resource blocks.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, in response to execution, cause a system comprising at least one processor to perform operations, comprising:
- receiving a signal formatted according to an open radio access network, wherein the signal is received from a distributed unit of the open radio access network and comprises control plane data;
- determining that a target message, from the control plane data, indicates scheduling in a downlink direction and is of section type 1 or section type 3;
- initializing respective counters for respective symbols that are scheduled, via the open radio access network, for transport between the distributed unit and a radio unit during a time division multiplexing slot, wherein a total number of the respective counters is a function of a multiplexing protocol applicable to communication between the distributed unit and the radio unit;
- identifying a symbol indicated by a message section of the target message;
- determining a number of physical resource blocks for the symbol that is scheduled by the message section during the time division multiplexing slot;
- and
- incrementing a counter, of the respective counters, that is associated with the symbol by the number of physical resource blocks.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a device comprising a processor, control plane data that describes allocating of physical resource blocks to be subsequently communicated between a distributed unit and a radio unit via user plane data;
- initializing, by the device, respective counters for respective symbols that are scheduled for transport between the distributed unit and the radio unit during a time division multiplexing unit of time, wherein a total number of the respective counters is a function of a cyclic prefix being used for communication between the distributed unit and the radio unit;
- determining, by the device, that a target message, from the control plane data, indicates scheduling in a downlink direction and has a specified section type;
- determining, by the device, a respective number of physical resource blocks for the respective symbols that is scheduled via the target message;
- and
- incrementing, by the device, the respective counters, associated with the respective symbols, by the respective number of physical resource blocks.
