Systems and methods for displaying a content item banner

A system comprising:

• control circuitry configured to:
• access content item consumption data indicated in a profile of a user;
• based at least in part on the content consumption data, determine that one or more content items of a series have not yet been consumed by the user of the profile;
• identify a plurality of content item banners associated with the one or more content items of the series;
• determine a first subset of the plurality of content item banners that comprise sensitive content in relation to the one or more content items of the series by identifying one or more content item banners depicting a character or plot element, associated with the series, indicative of a spoiler for the user having not yet consumed the one or more content items of the series;
• determine a second subset of the plurality of content item banners that do not comprise sensitive content in relation to the one or more content items of the series by identifying one or more content item banners depicting a character or plot element, associated with the series, that is not indicative of a spoiler for the user having not yet consumed the one or more content items of the series;
• select, from the second subset of the plurality of content item banners and based at least in part on the accessed profile, a content item banner that comprises a depiction of a character or plot element, associated with the series, that does not comprise sensitive content for the one or more content items of the series;
• and
• generate the selected content item banner for display.
