Protecting webcam video feeds from visual modifications

A system for protecting a video feed, comprising:

• a webcam configured to generate a video feed comprising a sequence of frame images and key frames;
• a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) integrated with the webcam and operably coupled to at least one processor, and including instructions stored in memory that, when executed on the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
• securely store a unique private key-public key pair,
• identify a key frame [kf] in the video feed, the key frame including an entire image segment for a particular moment in time, wherein the video feed further comprises a plurality of differential frames occurring between the key frame [kf] and the next key frame [kf+1] and including data for the parts of the image that have changed since a previous frame, wherein the key frame [kf] is identified by:
• using a library of a user appearance profile, the library stored in memory;
• and
• a trigger event including at least one of:
• a first appearance of a user in the video feed,
• a timer,
• a detection of a voice of the user,
• turning on the webcam in a conference call,
• a trigger of a video conferencing platform, or
• a randomly selected time interval from the start of the video feed,
• digitally sign the key frame [kf] using the private key, and
• embed the signed key frame [kf] in the video feed;
• instructions stored in memory that, when executed on the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
• transmit the video feed to a second computing device having second communication module to receive the video feed,
• identify the next key frame [kf+1] in the video feed,
• determine a similarity value of the next key frame [kf+1] and the key frame [kf], and
• when the similarity value is below a predefined threshold value,
• digitally sign the next key frame [kf+1] using the private key, and
• embed the digitally signed key frame [kf+1] in the video feed,
• wherein the similarity value is calculated only on successive key frames and wherein the similarity value being below the predefined threshold value precludes at least one digital signing and embedding of a subsequent key frame to the key frame.
