Abstract
A method for powering a wireless device includes determining a presence or absence of a USB power source connected to the wireless device, determining a presence or absence of a battery connected to the wireless device, obtaining a level of energy harvested from a surrounding environment of the wireless device, and powering a load of the wireless device using one of the USB power source, the battery, or the harvested energy based on the presence or absence of the USB power source, the presence or absence of the battery, and the harvested energy level.
Claims19
A method for powering a wireless device, comprising:
- determining a presence or absence of an external USB power source connected to the wireless device;
- determining a presence or absence of a battery within the wireless device;
- obtaining a level of radio-frequency (RF) energy harvested within the wireless device from a surrounding environment of the wireless device;
- selecting one of a plurality of power configurations stored in the wireless device to power-on a load of the wireless device based on a combination of the presence or absence of the external USB power source, the presence or absence of the battery within the wireless device, and the obtained level of the harvested RF energy;
- generating a configuration signal indicative of the selected power configuration to power-on the load of the wireless device;
- and
- powering on the load of the wireless device using only one of the external USB power source, the battery within the wireless device, or the harvested RF energy based on the configuration signal indicative of the selected power configuration.
A method for powering a wireless device, comprising:
- determining a presence of an external USB power source connected to the wireless device and a presence of a battery within the wireless device;
- powering-on a non-volatile memory of the wireless device using the external USB power source based on the presence of the external USB power source;
- obtaining, from the non-volatile memory, configuration data indicating a plurality of battery charging procedures;
- determining a type of the battery within the wireless device;
- selecting one of the plurality of battery charging procedures based on the determined type of the battery within the wireless device;
- and
- charging the battery within the wireless device using the external USB power source according to the selected battery charging procedure.
