Abstract
A method and network for refining pixels in an image are provided. The method includes determining principle directions of a pixel in the image and determining a normal direction of the pixel in the image. The method further includes segmenting regions in the image as one or more horizontal regions and one or more vertical regions based on the normal direction of the pixel and obtaining global normalization information for the image from the segmented regions. The method also includes refining the principle directions of the pixel in the image based on the global normalization information. A method is also provided for determining perspective directions of pixels in the image.

A method for refining pixels in an image, the method comprising:
- determining principal directions of a pixel in the image wherein the principal directions include an x-direction and a y-direction representing a pair of orthogonal directions in a three-dimensional space;
- determining a normal direction of the pixel in the image;
- segmenting regions in the image as one or more horizontal regions and one or more vertical regions based on the normal direction of each pixel in the segmented regions;
- obtaining global normalization information for the image from the segmented regions, including estimating a first gravity direction for the image by averaging the y-directions of each pixel in the one or more horizontal regions in the image;
- and
- refining the principal directions of the pixel in the image based on the global normalization information.
A non-volatile computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- determining principal directions of a pixel in an image wherein the principal directions include an x-direction and a y-direction representing a pair of orthogonal directions in a three-dimensional space;
- determining a normal direction of the pixel in the image;
- segmenting regions in the image as one or more horizontal regions and one or more vertical regions based on the normal direction of each pixel in the segmented regions;
- obtaining global normalization information for the image from the segmented regions, including estimating a first gravity direction for the image by averaging the y-directions of each pixel in the one or more horizontal regions in the image;
- and
- refining the principal directions of the pixel in the image based on the global normalization information.
A computer-implemented system, comprising:
- one or more computers;
- and
- one or more computer memory devices interoperably coupled with the one or more computers and having computer-readable storage media storing one or more instructions that, when executed by the one or more computers, perform one or more operations comprising:
- determining principal directions of a pixel in an image wherein the principal directions include an x-direction and a y-direction representing a pair of orthogonal directions in a three-dimensional space;
- determining a normal direction of the pixel in the image;
- segmenting regions in the image as one or more horizontal regions and one or more vertical regions based on the normal direction of each pixel in the segmented regions;
- obtaining global normalization information for the image from the segmented regions, including estimating a first gravity direction for the image by averaging the y-directions of each pixel in the one or more horizontal regions in the image;
- and
- refining the principal directions of the pixel in the image based on the global normalization information.
