Abstract
Systems, methods, and apparatus for smart electric power grid communication are disclosed in the present invention. At least one grid element transmits at least one registration message over an Internet Protocol (IP)-based network to at least one coordinator. The at least one coordinator registers the at least one grid element upon receipt of the at least one registration message. The at least one grid element automatically and/or autonomously transforms into at least one active grid element for actively functioning in the electric power grid. The at least one coordinator tracks based on revenue grade metrology an amount of power available for the electric power grid or a curtailment power available from the at least one active grid element.
Claims20
A system for electric power grid element and network management comprising:
- at least one grid element constructed and configured for Internet Protocol (IP)-based network communication with at least one server and at least one database via at least one coordinator;
- wherein the at least one coordinator communicates a message to the at least one server for registration of the at least one grid element with an electric power grid;
- wherein the at least one grid element is automatically and/or autonomously transformed into at least one active grid element following registration with the electric power grid;
- wherein the at least one active grid element is operable to send messages to and/or receive messages from the at least one server via the at least one coordinator;
- wherein the at least one grid element includes at least one energy storage device or at least one battery for storing electric power;
- wherein the at least one coordinator is operable to provide control of electric grid operations comprising at least one of energy flows within the electric power grid, grid stabilization, operating reserves, and/or capacity;
- wherein the messages include change in state messages transmitted in a format determined by a grid operator, achieving primary frequency control;
- wherein the change in state messages include a delta for a value associated with the at least one active grid element relative to a previous report for the value;
- wherein the delta for the value is a change in the value relative to the previous report for the value;
- and
- wherein the messages include a measured quantity corresponding to an increase in power supply of the at least one grid element.
A method for electric power grid network management, comprising:
- at least one coordinator communicating a message to at least one server for registration of at least one grid element with an electric power grid;
- the at least one grid element automatically transforming into corresponding at least one active grid element for functioning actively within the electric power grid following registration with the electric power grid;
- the at least one active grid element sending messages to the at least one server routed by the at least one coordinator;
- the at least one server operating at least one database to receive information associated with the at least one active grid element;
- the at least one coordinator providing control of electric grid operations comprising at least one of energy flows within the electric power grid, grid stabilization, operating reserves, and/or capacity;
- wherein the at least one grid element includes at least one energy storage device and/or at least one battery;
- wherein the messages include change in state messages transmitted in a format determined by a grid operator, achieving primary frequency control;
- wherein the change in state messages include a delta for a value associated with the at least one active grid element relative to a previous report for the value;
- wherein the delta for the value is a change in the value relative to the previous report for the value;
- and
- wherein the messages additionally include a measured quantity corresponding to an increase in power supply of the at least one grid element.
