Indoor wayfinder interface and service

A method, comprising:

• receiving a layout mapping of an indoor facility demarcating pedestrian paths and turns;
• processing the layout mapping to generate navigable routing information through the indoor facility;
• initiating a wayfinding session between a server and a user device within the indoor facility relative to the navigable routing information as a user moves through the indoor facility;
• dynamically modifying navigational instructions rendered on the user device based on a determined position of the user device relative to an upcoming turn along a current navigable route by superimposing a dynamically changing AR (augmented reality) object into video being viewed by the user, wherein the dynamically changing AR object is a three-dimensional arrow that points in a direction the user is to walk for a current segment and a sphere representing the upcoming turn, wherein the three-dimensional arrow points to the sphere within the video being viewed by the user;
• and
• iterating the determining and the dynamically modifying as the user traverses a plurality of turns forming the current navigable route until the user reaches a desired destination location within the indoor facility.

A system, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• a memory storing computer-readable instructions that when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving layout mappings of indoor facilities mapping predefined walking paths and turns between the walking paths;
• processing the layout mappings to generate navigable routing information defining routes through the indoor facilities;
• tracking locations of user devices within the indoor facilities during wayfinding sessions utilizing an AR (augmented reality)-based distance and tracking algorithm that tracks user movements and corresponding movements of the user devices utilizing settings and states associated with a camera, a gyroscope, an accelerometer of the user devices, and analysis of real-time video captured by the camera to calculate distances and directions of device movements within a physical environment of users relative to a starting point;
• determining remaining distances between the user devices and upcoming turns along currently navigated routes based on the tracked locations;
• modifying navigational instructions rendered on the user devices based on the determined remaining distances to the upcoming turns by superimposing dynamically changing AR objects into video being viewed by users, wherein the dynamically changing AR objects are three-dimensional arrows that point in directions the users are to walk for current segments and spheres representing the upcoming turns, wherein the three-dimensional arrows point to the spheres within the video being viewed by the users;
• and
• repeating the tracking, the determining, and the modifying operations as the user devices traverse a plurality of tunes forming the currently navigated routes until reaching desired destination locations within the indoor facilities.
