Abstract
A modular return air device includes a body and a first air return configured to facilitate incoming air to enter the body, wherein the body has a grille and a damper. The modular return air device further includes one or more sensors configured to collect data regarding the incoming air and a second air return configured to facilitate the air to exit the body of the modular return air device.

A modular return air device comprising:
- a body;
- a first air return configured to facilitate incoming air to enter the body, the body comprising a grille and a damper;
- one or more sensors configured to collect data regarding the incoming air;
- a disinfecting unit configured to:
- receive one or more measurement from the one or more sensors,
- identify at least one type of disinfecting element,
- identify an amount of disinfecting element,
- identify an amount of time to activate the disinfecting element, and
- disinfect the incoming air entering the body using the identified at least one type of disinfecting element, the identified amount of disinfecting element, and the identified amount of time;
- and
- a second air return configured to facilitate the air to exit the body of the modular return air device.

- a body;
- a first air return configured to receive incoming air into the body, the body comprising a grille and a damper, wherein the incoming air is received from a room;
- a second air return configured to allow air to exit the body and enter the room, wherein the body is configured for modular installation within the room;
- and
- a disinfecting unit configured to:
- receive one or more measurement from the one or more sensors,
- identify at least one type of disinfecting element,
- identify an amount of disinfecting element,
- identify an amount of time to activate the disinfecting element;
- and
- disinfect the incoming air using the identified at least one type of disinfecting element, the identified amount of disinfecting element, and the identified amount of time,
- wherein incoming air enters the body via the first air return, is directed to the disinfecting unit, and exits the body via the second air return, thereby disinfecting surfaces within the room.
