Method and apparatus, including hose reel, for cleaning an oil and gas well riser assembly with multiple tools simultaneously

A cleaning tool for cleaning an oil and gas well riser section, the cleaning tool comprising:

• a) a nozzle;
• b) a high pressure water line that supplies fluid to the nozzle;
• c) wherein the nozzle is attached to a far end of the high pressure water line;
• d) a pump that feeds the fluid under pressure to the nozzle via the high pressure water line;
• e) a discharge tank that receives the fluid discharged from the riser section and at a temperature of between about 100 and 180° F.;
• f) one or more filters that clean the discharged fluid;
• g) a first heat exchanger;
• h) a second heat exchanger;
• i) one or more holding tanks;
• j) piping that routes the fluid from the first heat exchanger to the second heat exchanger;
• k) a recirculating flow line from the second heat exchanger to the nozzle;
• and
• l) Wherein one of said holding tanks receives the recirculating fluid recirculated from the heat exchangers and wherein a flow line returns the fluid from the said holding tank to the said heat exchangers.

A method of cleaning an oil and gas well tubular or riser section, having a larger diameter section with a flow bore, an inside surface to be cleaned, and multiple smaller diameter sections, comprising the steps of:

• a) placing a fitting on an end portion of the larger diameter section of the oil and gas well tubular or riser section, the fitting including a radially outermost section engaging and covering an end of the larger diameter section of the tubular or riser section, said fitting having a drain opening, wherein the radially outermost section includes a cylindrically shaped seal member that engages said end portion;
• b) inserting a cleaning tool through the fitting and into the larger diameter section of the tubular or riser section and also into a selected smaller diameter section wherein said cleaning tool cleans the inside surface of the larger diameter section of the oil and gas well tubular or riser section and a selected smaller diameter section with cleaning fluid;
• c) removing the cleaning fluid from the cleaning operations of steps “a” through “b” via the drain opening, wherein the removed cleaning fluid has a temperature of between about 100 and 180° F.;
• d) moving the cleaning tool with a hose, wherein a feed tool selectively pushes or pulls the hose;
• e) housing the hose of step “d” in a container that has inner and outer sidewalls, an annular space between the sidewalls, and a sidewall opening in the inner side wall that connects with a rotary fluid conveying swivel fitting;
• and
• f) wherein in step “e” the container rotates when paying out or when retrieving said hose.
