A method for controlling a backhoe loader, comprising the following steps of:

• setting a power upper threshold P0 of a variable displacement pump of the backhoe loader according to an operating mode of the backhoe loader;
• wherein the backhoe loader comprises an engine, the variable displacement pump, a traveling system, a loading operation system-(4), and a digging operation system;
• and the operating mode comprises:
• a traveling mode, a loading operation mode, and a digging operation mode;
• and
• adjusting the power upper threshold P0 of the variable displacement pump according to an actual load of the backhoe loader in a current operating mode;
• wherein the adjusting the power upper threshold P0 of the variable displacement pump according to an actual load of the backhoe loader in a current operating mode comprises the following steps of:
• determining whether the backhoe loader has a risk of overloading;
• and
• lowering the power upper threshold P0 of the variable displacement pump when the backhoe loader has the risk of overloading.
