Abstract
A copolymer additive comprising water and a copolymer prepared from an acetoacetamide functional monomer and a ureido monomer is stable in a wide range of pH values and a coating composition comprising such copolymer additive can provide coating films made therefrom with good formaldehyde abatement performance and good resistance to yellowing.
Claims11
A copolymer additive comprising a copolymer having a weight average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 10,000 g/mol and water,
- wherein the copolymer comprises, by weight based on the weight of the copolymer,
- from 4% to 60% of structural units of an acetoacetamide functional monomer having the structure of formula (I):
- wherein R1 is selected from the following structure:
- where R2, R4, R8, R10, R12 and R13 are each independently an alkylene group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, R3, R5, R6, R7 and R11 are each independently hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R9 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and X is —O— or —NH—;
- and
- from 40% to 96% of structural units of a ureido monomer.
