Abstract
Disclosed herein are tethered cap and spout combinations. The tethered cap and spout combinations prevent loss of the cap after opening. The tethered cap and spout combinations may provide mechanisms for puncturing or opening a seal that may be present at a throat or neck of the container which provides both an anti-tampering and freshness function. In an implementation, the tethered cap and spout combinations may provide anti-tampering mechanisms. The tethered cap and spout combinations may provide mechanisms to hold an opened and tethered cap away from the container opening during use.
Claims20
A device comprising:
- a cap;
- a spout;
- a retaining element attached to the spout between the spout and the cap;
- a tether having a first end connected to the retaining element, a second end connected to the cap, and a retaining element lock mechanism positioned between the first end and the second end;
- and
- a rupture mechanism having a first portion connected to the spout, second portions connected to the retaining element and tearably connected to the first portion, and a cap member formed on one of the second portions,
- wherein rotating the cap with respect to the spout ruptures a tearable connection between the first portion and the second portions to rupture a connection between the spout and the retaining element, and
- wherein the retaining element lock mechanism is configured to lock with the cap member to hold the cap away from the spout after disengaging the cap from the retaining element by flipping open the cap.
A system comprising:
- a container;
- and
- a tethered cap and spout combination secured to the container, wherein the tethered cap and spout combination includes:
- a cap;
- a spout;
- a retaining element secured to the spout, the retaining element including a plurality of retaining element portions and a cap member on one of the plurality of retaining element portions;
- a tether having a first end connected to the cap by a first hinge mechanism, a second end connected to the retaining element by a second hinge mechanism, and a slot positioned between the first hinge mechanism and the second hinge mechanism;
- a first plurality of rupture elements connecting the cap to the retaining element;
- and
- a second plurality of rupture elements connecting the plurality of retaining element portions to the spout,
- wherein the slot is configured to engage the cap member to hold the cap away from an opening of the spout when the cap is rotated.
