Assessment of a vessel

A method for assessing a vessel of a patient, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a cardiovascular physiology device with at least one input for intravascular pressure and a display capable of outputting non-hyperemic coronary physiology assessment metrics;
• the cardiovascular physiology device obtaining a set of first location pressure measurements at a first location in the vessel over a first time period and a set of second location pressure measurements at a second location in the vessel over the first time period, wherein the second location is different than the first location, and wherein the set of first location pressure measurements and the set of second location pressure measurements are obtained not during hyperemia;
• the cardiovascular physiology device identifying, for each of a plurality of cardiac cycles, a first leading characteristic associated with one or more pressure measurements in the set of first location pressure measurements and a second leading characteristic associated with one or more pressure measurements in the set of second location pressure measurements;
• the cardiovascular physiology device identifying, for each of the plurality of cardiac cycles, a first trailing characteristic associated with one or more pressure measurements in the set of first location pressure measurements and a second trailing characteristic associated with one or more pressure measurements in the set of second location pressure measurements, wherein the identified first trailing characteristic is after the identified first leading characteristic in the first time period and the identified second trailing characteristic is after the identified second leading characteristic in the first time period;
• the cardiovascular physiology device identifying, for each of the plurality of cardiac cycles, a first single pressure measurement that is at a first distance between the identified first leading characteristic and the identified first trailing characteristic, and a second single pressure measurement that is at the first distance between the identified second leading characteristic and the identified second trailing characteristic;
• the cardiovascular physiology device calculating a pressure ratio, wherein the pressure ratio is equal to an average of the second single pressure measurements divided by an average of the first single pressure measurements;
• identifying the pressure ratio being below a clinical threshold;
• and
• performing an angioplasty or stent placement in response to identifying said pressure ratio being below the clinical threshold.
