Abstract
A field pea cultivar designated 4009968 is disclosed. Embodiments include the seeds, plants, and plant parts of field pea cultivar 4009968, and methods for producing a field pea plants by crossing field pea cultivar 4009968 with itself or with another field pea variety. Embodiments further include methods for producing field pea plants containing one or more genes or transgenes and the transgenic field pea plants and plant parts produced by those methods. Embodiments further relate to field pea cultivars, breeding cultivars, plant parts, and cells derived from field pea cultivar 4009968, methods for producing other field pea cultivars, lines, hybrids, or plant parts derived from field pea cultivar 4009968, and the field pea plants, varieties, and their parts derived from use of those methods.
Claims20
A plant or a seed of field pea cultivar 4009968, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar is deposited under NCMA No. 202305010.
A method of producing a plant derived from field pea cultivar 4009968, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar is deposited under NCMA No. 202305010, comprising an added desired trait, wherein the method comprises introducing at least one nucleic acid sequence conferring the desired trait to said plant.
A method of introducing a desired trait into field pea cultivar 4009968, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a 4009968 plant, wherein a sample of seed is deposited under NCMA No. 202305010, with a plant of another field pea cultivar having a desired trait to produce progeny plants;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the 4009968 plant to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) a sufficient number of times in succession to produce selected second or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and essentially all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of field pea cultivar 4009968.
A food or feed product comprising a plant part of field pea cultivar 4009968, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar was deposited under NCMA No. 202305010, wherein said plant part is a seed, leaf, stem, root, or cell.
