Abstract
The embodiments described herein describe technologies for non-volatile memory persistence in a multi-tiered memory system including two or more memory technologies for volatile memory and non-volatile memory.
Claims20
An apparatus comprising:
- a first interface to couple to a first memory device of a first memory type, wherein the first memory type is volatile memory;
- a second interface to couple to a second memory device of a second memory type, wherein the second memory type is non-volatile memory;
- a third interface to couple to a third memory device;
- and
- a control element coupled to the first interface, second interface and third interface, wherein the control element is to:
- capture a state of data stored in the first memory device over the first interface;
- transfer the state to the second memory device, wherein the second memory device is to store the state for recovery in an event of power loss;
- track data change units representing changes to the state of data stored in the first memory device;
- aggregate the data change units in the third memory device;
- and
- transfer the data change units to the second memory device, wherein the state stored in the second memory device is updated with the transferred data change units.

A three-tiered memory subsystem comprising:
- one or more memory devices of a first memory type;
- one or more memory devices of a second memory type, wherein the first memory type is volatile memory and the second memory type is non-volatile memory;
- a third memory device;
- and
- a digital circuit coupled to the one or more memory devices of the first memory type, the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, and the third memory device, wherein the digital circuit is to:
- capture a state of data stored in the one or more memory devices of the first memory type;
- transfer the state to the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, wherein the one or more memory devices of the second memory type are to store the state for recovery in an event of power loss;
- track data change units representing changes to the state of data stored in the one or more memory devices of the first memory type;
- aggregate the data change units in the third memory device;
- and
- transfer the data change units to the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, wherein the state stored in the one or more memory devices of the second memory type is updated with the transferred data change units.

A memory module comprising:
- one or more memory devices of a first memory type;
- one or more memory devices of a second memory type, wherein the first memory type is volatile memory and the second memory type is non-volatile memory;
- a third memory device;
- and
- a control element coupled to the one or more memory devices of the first memory type, the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, and the third memory device, wherein the control element is to:
- capture a state of data stored in the one or more memory devices of the first memory type;
- transfer the state to the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, wherein the one or more memory devices of the second memory type are to store the state for recovery in an event of power loss;
- track data change units representing changes to the state of data stored in the one or more memory devices of the first memory type;
- aggregate the data change units in the third memory device;
- and
- transfer the data change units to the one or more memory devices of the second memory type, wherein the state stored in the one or more memory devices of the second memory type is updated with the transferred data change units.
