Projector and method for controlling the same

A projector comprising:

• a main body;
• at least one sensor;
• a memory storing one or more instructions;
• and
• at least one processor configured to execute the one or more instructions stored in the memory to:
• detect a projection direction of the projector using the at least one sensor,
• when the detected projection direction is toward a surface on which the projector is placed,
• form a first sensing area in the detected projection direction,
• detect, in the first sensing area, a touch input on a projection surface, to which the projector projects an image, using the at least one sensor,
• recognize the touch input as a user input, and
• perform an operation corresponding to the touch input recognized as the user input, and
• when the detected projection direction is toward a surface perpendicular to the surface on which the projector is placed,
• form a second sensing area in a direction opposite to the detected projection direction with respect to the projector,
• detect a gesture input of a user in the second sensing area, using the at least one sensor,
• recognize the gesture input as a user input, and
• perform an operation corresponding to the gesture input recognized as the user input,
• wherein the at least one sensor used to detect the touch input in the first sensing area is used to detect the gesture input in the second sensing area, and
• the at least one sensor performs motion detection from a same side of the main body to detect the touch input in the first sensing area and the gesture input in the second sensing area.
