Abstract
An image forming apparatus includes a first conveying portion provided with a discharge opening, a second conveying portion, a switching unit switched between a first state in which a recording medium is guided to the first conveying portion and a second state in which the recording medium is guided to the second conveying portion, a detecting unit provided in the discharge opening and for detecting the recording medium, a controller for controlling the switching unit, and a discriminating unit for discriminating that the switching unit is abnormal in a case where after the switching unit is controlled by the controller so as to be switched to the second state, a time from a start of detection of the recording medium by the detecting unit to an end of the detection is within a predetermined period.
Claims9
An image forming apparatus comprising:
- a first conveying portion having a discharge opening and configured to convey a recording medium;
- a second conveying portion configured to convey the recording medium in a direction different from a direction by the first conveying portion;
- a switching unit configured to switch between (1) a first state in which the recording medium is guided to the first conveying portion and (2) a second state in which the recording medium is guided to the second conveying portion;
- a detecting unit provided in the discharge opening and configured to detect the recording medium;
- a controller configured to control the switching unit;
- a discriminating unit configured to discriminate that the switching unit is abnormal in a case where after the switching unit is controlled by the controller so as to be switched to the second state, a time from a start of detection of the recording medium by the detecting unit to an end of the detection is within a predetermined period;
- and
- a notifying portion configured to provide a notification regarding the switching unit,
- wherein the discriminating unit is further configured to (1) count a number of occurrences of the abnormality discrimination of the switching unit and (2) notify the notifying portion that the switching unit is in a failure state when the number of occurrences reaches a predetermined threshold.
