Universal feed mechanism for automatic packager

A method of dispensing medications, the method comprising:

• removably receiving, at a plurality of cartridge mechanisms, a plurality of cartridges storing a plurality of medications;
• determining, using an electronic processor, that a medication of the plurality of medications of a first cartridge of the plurality of cartridges is delivered to a platform of a first cartridge mechanism of the plurality of cartridge mechanisms corresponding to the first cartridge;
• in response to determining that the medication is delivered to the platform
• controlling, using the electronic processor, a camera system to capture an image of the platform;
• determining, using the electronic processor, whether an expected medication is delivered to the platform based on the image before the medication is dispensed from the first cartridge;
• in response to determining that the expected medication is delivered to the platform, dispensing, using the first cartridge mechanism, the medication from the platform;
• and
• in response to determining that the expected medication is not delivered to the platform, returning, using the first cartridge mechanism, the medication from the platform directly to a reservoir of the first cartridge.
