Abstract
Disclosed are bioprinted, three-dimensional, biological skin tissues comprising: a dermal layer comprising dermal fibroblasts; and an epidermal layer comprising keratinocytes, the epidermal layer in contact with the dermal layer to form the three-dimensional, engineered, biological skin tissue. Also disclosed are arrays of engineered skin tissues and methods of making engineered skin tissues.
Claims20
A three-dimensional, engineered, biological skin tissue that is capable of being cultured for at least 12 days, comprising:
- a. a dermal layer in contact with a surface that is not a scaffold, wherein the dermal layer comprises dermal fibroblasts, and
- b. an epidermal layer in contact with the dermal layer, wherein the epidermal layer comprises keratinocytes, wherein the skin tissue comprises a plurality of layers of differentiated keratinocytes within 12 days of culture.
A three-dimensional, engineered, biological skin tissue that is capable of being cultured for at least 12 days, comprising:
- a. a hypodermal layer in contact with a surface that is not a scaffold, wherein the hypodermal layer comprises endothelial cells,
- b. a dermal layer in contact with the hypodermal layer, wherein the dermal layer comprises dermal fibroblasts, and
- c. an epidermal layer in contact with the dermal layer, wherein the epidermal layer comprises keratinocytes,
- wherein the skin tissue comprises a plurality of layers of differentiated keratinocytes within 12 days of culture.
A three-dimensional, engineered, biological skin tissue that is capable of being cultured for at least 12 days, comprising:
- a. a dermal layer in contact with a surface that is not a scaffold, wherein the dermal layer comprises dermal fibroblasts,
- b. an epidermal layer comprising keratinocytes, and
- c. a basal layer in contact with the dermal layer and the epidermal layer, wherein the basal layer comprises basal keratinocytes,
- wherein the skin tissue comprises a plurality of layers of differentiated keratinocytes within 12 days of culture.
