Modular vehicle HMI

A modular programmable widget, comprising:

• a generally rectangular enclosure defining a toe-in hook sized to be received into a slot of a configurable display defining a set of positions in a linear array along the slot;
• one or more physical controls extending outwards from the front of the enclosure;
• a widget internal magnet mounted within the enclosure;
• and
• an electrical connector exposed at the top of the enclosure to facilitate connection with corresponding electrical connectors of a configurable display,
• wherein the configurable display includes internal magnets to aid in alignment of the modular programmable widget into one of the set of positions.

A configurable display for a vehicle, comprising:

• a body defining a slot and set of positions arranged in a linear array along the slot, each of the set of positions configured to receive modular programmable widgets, each position comprising pins configured to provide data and/or power to a connected modular programmable widget;
• and
• internal magnets within the body, positioned along the slot to aid in magnetic alignment of the connected modular programmable widget into each one of the set of positions,
• wherein each of the modular programmable widgets defines a toe-in hook sized to be received into the slot to mechanically secure the modular programmable widget to the configurable display as aligned into one of the set positions by the internal magnets.
