Abstract
The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for cleaning silica deposits from a turbine. A method of cleaning a turbine is disclosed that can include contacting a deposit on a surface of the turbine with a composition and removing at least a portion of the deposit from the surface of the turbine. The composition can include a tetrafluoroboric acid and a urea component, and the deposit includes silica.
Claims15
A method of cleaning a turbine, comprising:
- adding a composition comprising a tetrafluoroboric acid and a urea component to a wash water stream, wherein the tetrafluoroboric acid and the urea component together have a concentration in the wash water stream of about 2% by weight to about 20% by weight;
- adding the composition and the wash water stream to steam flowing to the turbine;
- and
- contacting a deposit on a surface of the turbine with the composition and the wash water stream during an on-line operation of the turbine, wherein the deposit comprises about 60% by weight to about 95% by weight of silica;
- thereby
- removing at least a portion of the deposit from the surface of the turbine, wherein the portion comprises silica.

A method of cleaning a turbine, comprising:
- adding a composition comprising a tetrafluoroboric acid and a urea component to a wash water stream, wherein the tetrafluoroboric acid and the urea component together have a concentration in the wash water stream of about 2% by weight to about 20% by weight;
- adding the composition and the wash water stream to steam flowing to the turbine;
- and
- contacting a deposit on a surface of the turbine with the composition and the wash water stream during an on-line operation of the turbine, wherein the deposit comprises about 60% by weight to about 95% by weight of crystalline silica;
- thereby
- removing at least a portion of the deposit from the surface of the turbine, wherein the portion comprises silica.
