Abstract
This disclosure relates to dampeners for sporting equipment wherein the dampeners dampen or attenuate energy, such as vibrations or sound. The dampeners include polymeric compositions having butyl rubber polymers and, optionally, resins based on phenol-formaldehyde. The dampeners can be used in sporting equipment that requires attenuation and absorption of impact, vibration, and/or sound, and the dampeners may provide cushioning to the user.
Claims20
A sports equipment, comprising:
- a racquet comprising a body having a head and a handle, the head comprising a beam having a beam inner surface;
- a string on the beam, wherein a first portion of the beam inner surface is on a first side of the string and a second portion of the beam inner surface is on a second side of the string;
- and
- a vibration dampener comprising at least one elongated strip, wherein the at least one elongated strip comprises a first elongated strip, wherein the first elongated strip is attached to the first portion of the beam inner surface only on the first side of the string, and
- wherein the vibration dampener comprises a polymeric composition comprising a butyl rubber and a phenol-formaldehyde resin, wherein the butyl rubber is in a range from 45% to 65% by weight of the polymeric composition and the phenol-formaldehyde resin is in a range from 5% to 15% by weight of the polymeric composition.
2 more elements
A vibration dampener for equipment, comprising:
- a layer configured to be attached to equipment, wherein the layer comprises a polymeric composition comprising:
- (i) a butyl rubber, wherein a content of the butyl rubber is in a range of from 45% to 65% by weight of the polymeric composition, and (ii) a phenol-formaldehyde resin, wherein a content of the phenol-formaldehyde resin is in a range of from 5% to 15% by weight of the polymeric composition.
