Abstract
An intravascular catheter device and methods for using the same are provided. An expandable portion is provided at a distal end of a flexible catheter tube and includes struts operable between a first position and a second position where the struts are moved outward from the first position. An incising member is provided at, and extends along a lengthwise dimension of, and outward from, at least one of the struts. An embolic protection device is provided which is configured for movement between a first position and a second position where the embolic protection device is enlarged relative to said first position.

An intravascular catheter device comprising:
- a flexible catheter tube;
- a first and second expandable portion provided at a distal end of said flexible catheter tube and each comprising:
- struts operable between a first position and a second position where the struts are moved outward from the first position, and
- an incising member provided at, extending along a lengthwise dimension of, and extending outward from, one of the struts;
- wherein said first expandable portion is provided proximal to, and spaced apart from, said second expandable portion;
- an embolic protection device provided distal to, and separate from, the second expandable portion, where said embolic protection device is configured for movement between a first position and a second position where the embolic protection device is enlarged relative to said first position;
- and
- an inner sleeve extending within the flexible catheter tube and connected to the first and second expandable portion for moving the struts of the first and second expandable portions between the first position and the second position.
An intravascular catheter device comprising:
- a handle assembly;
- a catheter tube extending from said handle assembly;
- an inner sleeve extending within the catheter tube;
- a first expandable portion secured to a distal end of said catheter tube and comprising a first set of struts, each connected at a proximal end thereof to said catheter tube, and connected at a distal end thereof to the inner sleeve, said first set of struts operable between a first position where each of the first set of struts extend along the inner sleeve and a second position where a mid-portion of each of the first set of struts are bowed outward from the inner sleeve by axial movement of said inner sleeve;
- a second expandable portion secured forward of said first expandable portion along said catheter tube and comprising a second set of struts, each connected at a proximal end thereof to said catheter tube, and connected at a distal end thereof to the inner sleeve, said second set of struts operable between a first position where each of the first set of struts extend along the inner sleeve and a second position where a mid-portion of each of the second set of struts are bowed outward from the inner sleeve by axial movement of said inner sleeve, where the second set of struts are radially offset from the first set of struts so that the first and second set of struts are not longitudinally aligned with one another;
- a first set of incising members, each provided at, and extending outward from, a proximal portion of each of the first set of struts, wherein each of said first set of incising members extend linearly and lengthwise along a respective one of the first set of struts, and wherein each of said first set of struts extend laterally beyond the respective one of the first set of incising members;
- a second set of incising members, each provided at, and extending outward from, a proximal portion of each of the second set of struts, wherein each of said second set of incising members extend linearly and lengthwise along a respective one of the second set of struts, and wherein each of said second set of struts extend laterally beyond the respective one of the second set of incising members;
- an embolic protection device provided distal to, and separate from, said second expandable portion along said inner sleeve and biased for movement into a second position where the embolic protection device is expanded relative to a first position, said embolic protection device comprising an expandable hoop and a mesh attached to said expandable hoop and said inner sleeve, said embolic protection device forming a conical shape when in said second position;
- and
- a sheath configured for sliding movement along said inner sleeve between a first position where said first set of struts, said second set of struts, and said embolic protection device are covered and forced into the respective first position and a second position where said first set of struts, said second set of struts, and said embolic protection device are exposed for movement into the respective second position.
