Abstract
A medical device may include an implantable device for treating a body tissue structure. The implantable device may include a wire structure which may include a wave pattern. The wire structure may be elastic so as to provide a pressure around the body tissue structure such that the pressure may change with movement of the body tissue structure.
Claims22
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein the body tissue structure is at or adjacent a lower esophageal sphincter.
An implantable device for implantation around a body tissue structure comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern,
- wherein the elastic structure is elastic so as to provide a pressure around the body tissue structure such that the pressure may change with movement of the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the elastic structure, and
- wherein the elastic structure is configured to straighten into a linear wire structure in response to a pulling force applied thereto.
An implantable device for implantation around a body tissue structure comprising:
- a structure configured to have an annular configuration and a linear configuration, and
- wherein the structure is elastic and configured to adjust radially outward in response to radially outward movement of the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the structure is in the annular configuration, and
- wherein the structure is at least partially formed from a bioabsorbable or biodegradable material and is configured to promote scar tissue at one or more locations at which the structure is configured to contact the body tissue structure.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure;
- and
- straightening the elastic structure from the wave pattern into a linear structure, wherein straightening the elastic structure comprises:
- gripping the elastic structure;
- and
- applying a pulling force to the elastic structure while gripping the elastic structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure;
- straightening the elastic structure from the wave pattern into a linear structure;
- and
- repositioning the elastic structure around the body tissue structure, wherein the straightening of the elastic structure facilitates repositioning the elastic structure;
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure;
- and
- straightening the elastic structure from the wave pattern into a linear structure;
- removing the elastic structure from around the body tissue structure, wherein the straightening of the elastic structure facilitates removing the elastic structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein the body tissue structure is at or adjacent an anal sphincter.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein the elastic structure includes a first side having a first spring constant and a second side having a second spring constant different than the first spring constant.
A method of implanting a device around a body tissue structure, the method comprising:
- introducing an implantable device to a patient, the implantable device comprising:
- an elastic structure having a wave pattern;
- positioning the implantable device around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein a spring constant of the elastic structure changes along a longitudinal direction of the structure when the implantable device is positioned around the body tissue structure, and
- wherein the elastic structure is at least partially formed from a bioabsorbable or biodegradable material and is configured to promote scar tissue at one or more locations at which the elastic structure is configured to contact the body tissue structure.
