Abstract
The present invention relates to a method of degrading biofilm by contacting it with an aqueous mixture comprising a peroxide compound and a manganese complex, wherein the aqueous mixture comprises a macrocylic ligand. The invention also relates to a method of degrading a biofilm by contacting it with an aqueous mixture comprising a peroxide compound and a macrocyclic ligand.
Claims20
A method of degrading a biofilm comprising contacting the biofilm with an aqueous mixture comprising (i) a peroxide compound and (ii) a mononuclear Mn(II), Mn(III) or Mn(IV), or dinuclear Mn(II)Mn(II), Mn(III)Mn(II), Mn(III)Mn(III), Mn(III)Mn(IV) or Mn(IV)Mn(IV) manganese complex, wherein the aqueous mixture comprises a ligand of formula (I) or (II):
- wherein:
- Q=
- p is 3;
- each R is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C24 alkyl, CH2C6-C10_aryl, CH2CH2OH, CH2COOH, and pyridin-2-ylmethyl;
- Q′ is an ethylene or propylene bridge;
- and
- R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from:
- H, C1-C4_alkyl and C1-C4 alkylhydroxy.
