Apparatus and methods for an electric vehicle

A control system for an electric vehicle, the control system comprising:

• an input arranged to receive a heat request signal indicative of a request for heating of one or more modules of the vehicle, and a temperature signal indicative of a temperature of a transmission associated with a traction electric machine of the vehicle;
• an output arranged to operably output a control signal for causing a heat exchanger associated with the transmission to output heat for the one or more modules of the vehicle;
• and
• an electronic processing device arranged to determine transmission heating power by determining a current power loss of the transmission in dependence on the temperature signal, and to compare the transmission heating power and electric heating power for the request for heating, wherein the electronic processing device is arranged to control the output to output the control signal in dependence on the comparison.
