Abstract
The present invention relates to a storm water management system comprising a first conduit, a storage device, a first well and a valve, wherein the storage device comprises a coherent man-made vitreous fibre module (MMVF module), wherein the MMVF module comprises an upper passage and a lower passage, wherein the upper passage is in fluid communication with the first conduit, and wherein the lower passage is connected to the first well by the valve.
Claims20
A storm water management system comprising:
- a first conduit for delivery of storm water into the system;
- a first well in fluid communication with the first conduit, capable of receiving storm water from the first conduit;
- a valve;
- a storage device comprises a man-made vitreous fiber module (MMVF module) comprising at least one man-made vitreous fiber element (MMVF element) with an open pore structure which is capable of absorbing and holding water, the MMVF module comprises an upper passage and a lower passage, wherein the upper passage is in fluid communication with the first conduit, the lower passage is fluidically connected to the first well by the valve which controls flow between the lower passage and the first well;
- and
- a bypass water flow control apparatus in fluid communication with the first conduit and the upper passage, and being capable of selectively directing storm water from the first conduit into the upper passage and/or into the first well.
A method of delaying storm water entering a sewer system, comprising:
- providing a storm water management system comprising:
- a first conduit for delivery of storm water into the system;
- a first well in fluid communication with the first conduit, capable of receiving storm water from the first conduit;
- a valve;
- a storage device comprises a man-made vitreous fiber module (MMVF module) comprising at least one man-made vitreous fiber element (MMVF element) with an open pore structure which is capable of absorbing and holding water, the MMVF module comprises an upper passage and a lower passage, wherein the upper passage is in fluid communication with the first conduit, the lower passage is fluidically connected to the first well by the valve which controls flow between the lower passage and the first well;
- and
- a bypass water flow control apparatus in fluid communication with the first conduit and the upper passage, and being capable of selectively directing storm water from the first conduit into the upper passage and/or into the first well;
- positioning the storm water management system in the ground;
- and
- allowing storm water to flow from the first conduit into the upper passage of the storage device.
A method of storing or releasing storm water comprising:
- providing a storm water management system comprising:
- a first conduit for delivery of storm water into the system;
- a first well in fluid communication with the first conduit, capable of receiving storm water from the first conduit;
- a valve;
- a storage device comprises a man-made vitreous fiber module (MMVF module) comprising at least one man-made vitreous fiber element (MMVF element) with an open pore structure which is capable of absorbing and holding water, the MMVF module comprises an upper passage and a lower passage, wherein the upper passage is in fluid communication with the first conduit, the lower passage is fluidically connected to the first well by the valve which controls flow between the lower passage and the first well;
- and
- a bypass water flow control apparatus in fluid communication with the first conduit and the upper passage, and being capable of selectively directing storm water from the first conduit into the upper passage and/or into the first well;
- positioning the storm water management system in the ground;
- allowing storm water to flow from the first conduit into the upper passage of the storage device;
- and
- actuating the valve to either store storm water in the storage device or release storm water from the storage device.
