Abstract

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for providing a locking apparatus for resisting movement of an openable element are described. The locking apparatus includes a mounting bracket, a central member, a stop plate, and a housing. The mounting bracket is couplable to the openable element. The central member is couplable to the mounting bracket and includes a body, an actuator, a lifting member coupled to the body and configured to be raise or lowered. The stop plate may be coupled to the frame of the openable element and aligned with at least a portion of the lifting member for restricting movement of the openable element when the lifting member is raised. The housing may be coupled to the mounting bracket and is generally used for aesthetic purposes. The locking apparatus may be one of a plurality of locking apparatuses grouped together for singular or group control, such as, for active shooter situations.

Dependent claims

A locking apparatus for resisting movement of a door positioned within a frame, the locking apparatus comprising:

a mounting bracket having a mounting portion and a support portion, the mounting portion configured to be coupled to the door;
a central member configured to be coupled to the support portion of the mounting bracket, the central member comprising:
a body;
an actuator;
and
a lifting member coupled to the body, wherein the lifting member is operable between a raised position corresponding to a locked state and a lowered position corresponding to an unlocked state, where the raised position has the proximal side of the lifting member elevated relative to the distal side of the lifting member, at least a portion of the lifting member being configured to be raised to the raised position or lowered to the lowered position relative to the body by the actuator, the lifting member comprising a contact surface configured to restrict movement of the door when the lifting member is raised;
a stop plate configured to be coupled to the frame and aligned with the proximal side and the contact surface of the lifting member for restricting movement of the door when the lifting member is raised and is in the raised position;
a housing configured to be coupled to the mounting bracket and at least partially surrounding the central member and the mounting bracket;
and
a control circuit configured to wirelessly receive a locking apparatus command and control operations of the locking apparatus.

A door system comprising:

a door frame;
a door coupled to the door frame, wherein the door includes a hinged edge coupled to the frame and a free edge positioned opposite the hinged edge;
a locking apparatus for resisting movement of the door positioned within the door frame, the locking apparatus comprising:
a mounting bracket having a mounting portion and a support portion, the mounting portion coupled to the door;
a central member coupled to the support portion of the mounting bracket, the central member comprising:
a body;
an actuator;
and
a lifting member coupled to the body, at least a portion of the lifting member being configured to be raised or lowered relative to the body by the actuator, the lifting member comprising a contact surface configured to restrict movement of the door when the lifting member is raised, wherein the lifting member is operable between a raised position corresponding to a locked state and a lowered position corresponding to an unlocked state, where the raised position has the proximal side of the lifting member elevated relative to the distal side of the lifting member;
a stop plate configured to be coupled to the frame and aligned with the proximal side of the lifting member for restricting movement of the door when the lifting member is raised;
and
a housing configured to be coupled to the mounting bracket and at least partially surrounding the central member and the mounting bracket.
