Intermodal-container-based factory

An intermodal-container-based factory for manufacturing building construction components, the intermodal-container-based factory comprising:

• a plurality of intermodal containers converted into workstations of the intermodal-container-based factory;
• a plurality of pieces of specialized manufacturing equipment, each permanently mounted to an intermodal container in at least a subset of workstations, each piece of the specialized manufacturing equipment configured to produce a specific component used in constructing a building;
• and
• an assembly line formed from a traversal of two or more of the intermodal containers to which the specialized manufacturing equipment is permanently mounted, the assembly line comprising:
• a sequence of intermodal containers that are positioned in parallel or in series, wherein at least two of the intermodal containers in the sequence are connected with adjoining wall panels that have had been removed from the intermodal containers to create an open interface between the two intermodal containers, and
• a sequence of the specialized manufacturing equipment that is located in the sequence of intermodal containers, the sequence of specialized manufacturing equipment is ordered according to a defined series of manufacturing tasks so that intermediate components produced in the assembly line are transferrable between the two intermodal containers through the open interface.
