Abstract
A method for making a motor fuel includes converting a mixture comprising one or more C2-C4 alkenes, synthesis gas, and acetaldehyde to a mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols; hydrogenating the mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols to obtain a mixture comprising C3-C8 alcohols; converting the C3-C8 alcohols into C6-C24 paraffins; and isolating a fraction of the C6-C24 paraffins. The isolated fraction may be used to formulate a motor fuel.
Claims20
A method for making a motor fuel, comprising:
- (a) converting a mixture comprising one or more C2-C4 alkenes, synthesis gas, and acetaldehyde to a mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols;
- (b) hydrogenating the mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols to obtain a mixture comprising C3-C8 alcohols;
- (c) converting the C3-C8 alcohols into C6-C24 paraffins;
- and
- (d) isolating a fraction of the C6-C24 paraffins.

A method for making alcohols, comprising:
- hydroformylating synthesis gas and a mixture comprising C2-C3 alkenes to form a mixture comprising one or more C3-C4 aldehydes;
- adding acetaldehyde and aldol condensing the acetaldehyde and the mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes to form a mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols;
- and
- hydrogenating the mixture comprising C3-C4 aldehydes and C5-C8 aldols to form a mixture comprising C3-C8 alcohols.
