Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus, comprising:

• a rotatable image bearing member;
• a charging member which charges a surface of the image bearing member;
• a developing member which supplies a developer to the image bearing member;
• a transfer member which transfers a developer image formed on the surface of the image bearing member onto a recording medium by sandwiching the recording medium with the image bearing member at a sandwiching portion;
• a transfer voltage applying portion which applies a transfer voltage to the transfer member;
• and
• a control portion which controls the transfer voltage applying portion,
• wherein the image forming apparatus is capable of executing post-rotation control of removing an electric charge from the surface of the image bearing member in a state that the image bearing member and the developing member rotate while in contact with each other, and
• wherein in a case that the post-rotation control is started in a state that a recording medium is being conveyed by the image bearing member and the transfer member, i) the control portion controls the transfer voltage applying portion so as to apply a first transfer voltage to the transfer member in a case that the recording medium is being sandwiched between the image bearing member and the transfer member, and ii) the control portion controls the transfer voltage applying portion so as to apply a second transfer voltage to the transfer member that is lower than the first transfer voltage after the recording medium passes through the sandwiching portion.
