Abstract
A method for making a microarray block with a recipient block formed from a material and having at least one bore therein. A cylindrical core of a biological sample and a carrier medium can be provided. At least a portion of the core can be disposed in the at least one bore of the recipient block. The core can be made compatible with the material of the recipient block before the disposing step. Related methods and assemblies are provided.
Claims17
A method for making a microarray block, comprising:
- providing a recipient block having an internal bore which has a length,
- providing a cylindrical core formed of a biological sample and a liquid carrier medium, the cylindrical core having a length and the biological sample being distributed along the length of the cylindrical core,
- dehydrating the cylindrical core and infiltrating the cylindrical core with paraffin to provide a free-standing cylindrical core, the free-standing cylindrical core having a length that is greater than the length of the internal bore, and
- disposing a portion of the length of the free-standing cylindrical core in the internal bore of the recipient block to form the microarray block.
A method for making a microarray block, comprising:
- providing a recipient block having an internal bore which has a length,
- providing a cylindrical core formed of a biological sample and a liquid carrier medium, the cylindrical core having a length and the biological sample being distributed along the length of the cylindrical core,
- solidifying the liquid carrier medium to form a solidified cylindrical core,
- dehydrating the solidified cylindrical core and infiltrating the solidified cylindrical core with paraffin to provide a free-standing cylindrical core, the free-standing cylindrical core having a length that is greater than the length of the internal bore, and
- disposing a portion of the length of the free-standing cylindrical core in the internal bore of the recipient block to form the microarray block.
A method for making a microarray block, comprising:

- dehydrating the cylindrical core and infiltrating the cylindrical core with paraffin to provide a free-standing cylindrical core, and
- disposing a portion of the length of the free-standing cylindrical core into each of the plurality of internal bores of the recipient block to form the microarray block.
