Systems and methods for gas storage and transportation

A method for storing and/or transporting hydrocarbon fluids comprising:

• contacting a fluid comprising a light hydrocarbon with a metal-organic framework adsorbent having a plurality of internal pores, the metal-organic framework adsorbent comprising a plurality of divalent metal centers, the divalent metal centers comprising zinc;
• adsorbing the fluid at a first pressure and at a first temperature in at least a portion of the internal pores of the metal-organic framework adsorbent thereby creating an adsorbed fluid;
• storing the adsorbed fluid in the internal pores of the metal-organic framework adsorbent at a second pressure and at a second temperature;
• and
• releasing the adsorbed fluid from the internal pores of the metal-organic framework adsorbent,
• wherein the metal-organic framework adsorbent comprises a bis(pyrazolyl)ethanediimine ligand, and
• wherein the metal-organic framework adsorbent undertakes a reversible phase transition upon adsorbing the fluid.
