Composite micro-vaporizer wicks

A composite wick for use in a vaporizer having a vaporizer body in which is disposed a vaporizable fluid reservoir and a vaporization chamber with a heating element at least partially disposed therein, the composite wick comprising:

• an annular cylindrical wick body having a longitudinal axis, an outer circumferential surface, and an inner circumferential surface and being positionable within the vaporizer body so that the outer circumferential surface is in fluid communication with the vaporizable fluid reservoir and the inner circumferential surface surrounds the heating element, the wick body comprising:
• at least one cylindrical base wick structure having a plurality of tortuous passages that collectively provide a capillary effect to draw vaporizable fluid from the vaporizable fluid reservoir through the outer circumferential surface and transports it radially inward toward the inner circumferential surface, and
• an active material positioned so that vaporizable fluid drawn radially inward through the wick body contacts and interacts with the active material, the active material being selected to impart a desired characteristic to the vaporized fluid,
• wherein the active material is distributed within the wick body so that the density of the active material within the distribution of the active material is greater toward a side of the wick body configured to be closest to the heating element than toward a side of the wick body configured to be furthest from the heating element.
