Modifying access control permissions

A computer system comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing access control instructions, the instructions, when executed by the processor, causing the processor to perform steps including:
• storing information relating to a plurality of electronic locks;
• assigning an electronic key to a user;
• adding the user to a group;
• associating a condition with the group;
• generating a rule indicating that members of the group are permitted to access a subset of the plurality of electronic locks;
• accessing, at a time corresponding to a training expiration date, personnel data associated with the user;
• determining whether the personnel data satisfies the condition;
• responsive to determining that the condition is satisfied, transmitting, to the electronic key, a first key configuration that permits the user, as a member of the group, to unlock the subset of electronic locks;
• and
• responsive to determining that the condition is not satisfied, removing the user from the group and transmitting, to the electronic key, a second key configuration that prevents the electronic key from unlocking the subset of electronic locks.

An access control method, comprising:

• maintaining, by an access control server, data associated with a plurality of electronic locks;
• identifying, by the access control server, a type of asset secured by an electronic lock;
• selecting, by the access control server based on the type of asset, the electronic lock to include in a subset of the plurality of electronic locks;
• associating, by the access control server, a condition with a user group;
• generating, by the access control server, a rule indicating that members of the user group are permitted to access the subset of the plurality of electronic locks;
• issuing, by the access control server, an electronic key to a user;
• accessing, by the access control server, personnel data related to the user, the personnel data including information indicative of a competency of the user;
• determining, by the access control server, whether the personnel data including information indicative of a competency of the user satisfies the condition;
• responsive to determining that the condition is satisfied, linking the user to the user group and transmitting, from the access control server to the electronic key, a first key configuration that permits the electronic key to unlock the subset of electronic locks;
• and
• responsive to determining that the access condition is not satisfied, unlinking the user from the user group and transmitting, from the access control server to the electronic key, a second key configuration that prevents the electronic key from unlocking the subset of electronic locks.
