Method to optimize storage partition rediscovery

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

• sending, by a user device manager running at a user space of an operating system and executed by a processor, a first request for partition table data to a block device,
• wherein the user space includes a plurality of user devices and each of the plurality of user devices corresponds to the block device for a user;
• receiving, by the user device manager, first partition data of the block device corresponding to the user device;
• sending, by the user device manager, a second request for partition data of the block device to a kernel of the operating system;
• receiving, by the user device manager, second partition data from the kernel, wherein the second partition data is associated with the block device and the second partition data is cached by the kernel;
• determining, by the user device manager, whether the first partition data and the second partition data are identical;
• and
• in response to determining that the first partition data is different from the second partition data, performing a device discovery operation on the block device, the device discovery operation including:
• performing, by the user device manager, one or more remove-partition-events to modify partition table data of the block device stored in the user space;
• and
• performing, by the user device manager, one or more add-partition-events to modify partition table data of the block device stored in the user space.

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• sending, by a user device manager running at a user space of an operating system and executed by a processor, a first request for partition table data to a block device,
• wherein the user space includes a plurality of user devices and each of the plurality of user devices corresponds to the block device for a user;
• receiving, by the user device manager, first partition data of the block device corresponding to the user device;
• sending, by the user device manager, a second request for partition data of the block device to a kernel of the operating system;
• receiving, by the user device manager, second partition data from the kernel, wherein the second partition data is associated with the block device and the second partition data is cached by the kernel;
• determining, by the user device manager, whether the first partition data and the second partition data are identical;
• and
• in response to determining that the first partition data is different from the second partition data, performing a device discovery operation on the block device, the device discovery operation including:
• performing, by the user device manager, one or more remove-partition-events to modify partition table data of the block device stored in the user space;
• and
• performing, by the user device manager, one or more add-partition-events to modify partition table data of the block device stored in the user space.
